Dave Regel created Dave Regel Construction, Inc. on October 15, 1988 and is now known as Regel Accessible Products, Inc. and  d/b/a of Accessible Construction and Products. Prior to starting this company, as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy Dave saw the hurt, frustration and humiliation people went through when they become physically disabled.  Later as an active real estate agent selling new and existing homes and seeing people in wheelchairs struggle to get into the model homes, it lead him to believe there must be a better way to build. These experiences opened his eyes to low quality new home construction and ultimately the decision to build his own high quality (custom) homes and two years later started designing and building Universal Designed (accessible) homes.

 

The subject of accessible housing comes by many names: handicapped housing, barrier-free housing, universal design, building for a lifetime, aging in place, and so on. We have adopted the term Universal Designed housing.

 

Dave's journey to design and build homes that exceeded the customers’ needs and wants in all aspects of the construction process came true. As Universal Design Specialists, we believe in exceeding the customers’ needs and wants, we also believe in taking the time to design and build your home the way you want it and the way you need it for accessibility.

 

We believe creating a positive relationship with our clients drastically improves client satisfaction and increases the efficiency and the effectiveness of our service.  More importantly, each client becomes part of our extended family; many of whom become close friends and keep in touch with us for years.

Accomplishments:

  • As Universal Design Specialists, Dave created a Manual and DVD to educate others in the art and science of building universal (accessible) homes.
  • Speaker - both locally and nationally promoting and guiding others in Universal (accessible) building techniques and acting as a resource for knowledge in this area.
  • Influenced Builder's Association of the Twin Cities to make a positive change to the requirements of accessibility for homes in the Parade of Homes, i.e. entrance to homes, accessibility to bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens. (Universal Design)
  • Recipient of "People's Choice Award" sponsored by the Parade Homes two years in a row.
  • Accolade from the Architect at the U.S. Department of Justice division that oversees accessibility in the multi-housing market:  "Dave's construction company is light years ahead of anyone in either the single family or multi-family market."
